The U14 Sharkettes had a great (but chilly) afternoon at Greenlaw today, welcoming Dumfries and Ayr for a series of games.
A good win against Dumfries in the first match showed off the Stewartry handling and running skills, with good work at the breakdown allowing multiple turnovers.
Ayr were up next, with the game very evenly balanced through the first half, with both teams tackling fiercely, and the defence coming out on top. The second half saw Ayr build some phases and build a lead that the Stewartry girls couldn’t pull back, despite their best efforts.
However, the finale of the afternoon was to come – with a 15-a-side Stewartry Vs Ayr game (with the Dumfries girls dividing to make up the numbers). This was the first time the girls had played a full-pitch match and they took to it like a duck to water, using the increased space and great running skills to secure a convincing win.
Great effort from all the girls on a cold and wet afternoon.
Thanks to all the players, parents, coaches and ref.
