Stewartry Sirens secured a hard-fought win against an old foe in their first home game of their Premiership campaign. Garioch, who pipped the Sirens to promotion in 21/22, made the trip down to Greenlaw from Aberdeen. Both teams were defeated in the first round of this season and eager to get their years back on track.

The Sirens started the stronger, with a blistering attack from their own kickoff, which resulted in a try for Phaedra Snailham. This set the tone for most of the first half, ending 20-5 with Snailham doubling up and additional fries from Clare Manson and Jade Stewart.

Garioch came out firing in the second half and took their opportunities well. Despite the Sirens combining backs and forwards play effectively; minor lapses in concentration and discipline allowed Garioch back into the game.

The Sirens must have thought the victory was assured when Snailham got outside the Garioch defence and scored in the corner for her hat trick. The drama, however, was far from over. Garioch capitalised on a loose ball and ran the entire length of the pitch to score and convert for a 25-29 lead with just minutes to go. The Sirens showed composure working their way down the field with some outstanding bulldozing and offloading by a pack who had already put in a shift.

It was, however, scrum half Clare Manson who put in some fancy footwork to slip over to put the game out of reach for Garioch, with Lisa Ritchie closing out the Sirens account with a conversion, ending the match as a 32-29 win for the Sirens.
