Senior Women (Sirens) | 25th Feb 2020
Yesterday the 17 strong Stewartry Sirens squad took to Greenlaw to challenge Premiership side – Ayr ladies for a spot in the Sarah Beeney Cup Quarter final. The game was very physical with Ayr Ladies bringing some big ball carriers and speedy runners, but the Sirens handled everything thrown at them – not allowing the ladies in pink to cross the white wash.
The Sirens managed to turnover a number of rucks thanks to relentless work from second row duo – Dooley and Ballentine and back row Durnan. The Centers – Snailham & Johnstone operated like clock work to draw in the Ayr Defence and create space, whilst the game was control clinically by the experience of Ritchie.
It was two tries a piece for Ballentine, Snailham and Skipper Manson and Durnan’s hard work in the rucks was rewarded with the final try of the match. Extra points were added by the boot of Ritchie.
Final Score: Sirens 37 – 0 Ayr Ladies
Player of the match chosen by the opposition went to Donna Burns for her strong carrying, speedy lines, and fantastic tackling. Player of the match chosen by Sirens went to Lizzie Ballentine for her work in the scrums and rucks and for crossing the white wash twice!
Team:
The next challenge for the Sirens will be away to the Pool Leaders – Corstorphine Cougars. A win in the match would give the Sirens a Home advantage in the quarter final game.
